For an efficient agri-food sector, effective education is needed at all levels. Academic training is needed to develop new ways for innovation, and hands-on education is needed to actually implement innovations. Borderless Network is a Dutch network that consists of knowledge institutes in the agriculture sector in the Netherlands. The research and education institutes have joined their forces to further strengthen the green knowledge and innovation system in the Netherlands.
Dutch green education system
The Dutch green education system varies in level: from pre-vocational education (VMBO), secondary vocational education (MBO) and higher vocational education (HBO, or University of Applied Science), to scientific education (Wageningen University). They not only cooperate together in the educational sphere, but also with the government and business. This ensures that the education and innovation go hand in hand. What began as agricultural education has now become a wide range of (international) programmes with focus on agriculture, food, the living environment and the quality of life.
Internationalization is an important priority for the Dutch green education. The green sector has become a global sector that operates in increasingly complex, international networks. We believe that international cooperation is one of the pillars of a strong knowledge-driven economy and an important factor for innovation, learning and development.
Borderless Network intends to combine academic with basic and advanced TVET activities in order to serve the parties in need of training the best way we can. We explore the options to jointly develop education, training and research with parties abroad, making use of the Dutch expertise.
To reach our goals, we build strategic partnerships with both national and international government and business in the green domain.
